About Me

As you may have read in my first post, my name is Alex Derencz, and I am a junior at Auburn University where I study journalism. It is my goal to take the knowledge I have acquired to become a television reporter and anchor. I have always had a knack for being the first person to tell someone about a news story. I guess I was born with “Watchdog Journalism Fever.” I also wanted a job where I could stay connected with society and make a difference in someone’s life. If I can tell someone a news story and it makes a difference in their life; I’m a happy man.

Let me tell you a little about me outside the journalism realm:

Favorite sport: Baseball

Favorite teams: Baltimore Orioles, Auburn Tigers, Washington Capitals and Hershey Bears

Favorite movies: Field of Dreams, Broadcast News, Caddyshack, A Night at the Roxbury, Bull Durham

Favorite place: Ocean City, MD

Favorite food: Anything barbecue or Maryland seafood

Dreams: Always being there for the next big story, become a network anchor, win an Edward R. Murrow award and raise a family

Journalism heroes: Jayne Miller, Sheppard Smith and Al Sanders
